It was as one-half of the Funkadactyls, one of the dancing valets for a returning Brodus Clay, that WWE Diva Naomi made her mark on the wrestling landscape. But once the group inevitably was disbanded and Naomi was able to separate from her counterpart Cameron, that’s when Naomi was given the chance to show what she could really do between those ropes. A rising star in the Divas division, Naomi seemed to be on the path toward a WWE Divas Championship reign, when she was sidelined due to injury, suffering a displaced fracture of her orbital bone during a match, derailing her climb to the top spot among the Divas. Since returning, it’s been a rocky road to get back on track for Naomi, mostly hanging out in the corner of the Usos (where her husband Jimmy does his work). But with the WWE Universe making a public display that they want to see more Divas action on WWE programming, the stage may be set for Naomi to resume her championship aspirations within the company, especially following a big win on the post-WrestleMania RAW as part of a 6-Divas-tag match.
When I had the opportunity to talk with Naomi at this year’s WrestleMania Axxess, we chatted about her attempts to regain the momentum she seemed to lose with her injury, in addition to the reaction the public’s outcry of #GiveDivasAChance.
