Digital Spy had a chat with Mark Ruffalo and the subject of a possible Hulk stand alone movie came up because it’s not like anyone would ever ask him if he wants to do a sequel to 13 GOING ON 30.
Anyway – he said this:
“I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers it was basically ‘No!’, and now there is some consideration for it. But there’s still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be. I look forward to going down that road, if we could crack that nut.”
So there you go. The guy who plays the Hulk says that he would be open to doing a movie about the Hulk.
The sad truth of the matter here is that the Hulk is MUCH better as a supporting character than he is as a lead. Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE the Hulk – always have – but he is much more effective showing up at the exact moment he is needed and amshing the bejesus out of something that needs smashing than carrying the entire plot and purpose of a movie.
You THINK you want to see a movie version of Planet Hulk or maybe an adaption of Future Imperfect, but you really don’t. IMHO they work on paper and a little less effectively as animated media – but on the big screen after getting homogenized and filtered through all the levels of executive incompetence that would be needed to greenlight the kind of expense involved with an hour and thirty of big green rage monster smashing stuff up? Nahh – you don’t want THAT movie.
Just please keep making him the best part of the AVENGERS movies and I will be MORE than happy.
