Dark streets, neon glows and dames with gams the length of Tulsa. This is the world of Classic Noir… where a ten-bit mucker can trip, then fall into a maelstrom of moral ambiguity… where men are men and rooks dole out justice by the names of “Spade,” “Marlow,” and “Hammer.” This ain’t no kindergarten rap. This is life on the lam. Crime for a passion. Murder for business.

I’ve been wanting to do a Film Noir show for awhile and we finally got to shoot this recently. We discuss five classic Noir flicks: THE MALTESE FALCON, DETOUR, DOUBLE INDEMNITY, THE SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS and KISS ME DEADLY. And we’re comin’ at ya’ in glorious black n’ white. Because color is for chumps, you yeggs!

Great show guys! I find Maltese Falcon overrated, but I may need to watch it again. I love me some John Huston and Bogart, but I prefer High Sierra.

Double Indemnity is fantastic and one of my favorite movies. Going My Way is actually a decent movie for what it is though it’s too long, but Double Indemnity is easily the better movie. (And that’s also a case where arguably the sequel The Bells of St. Mary’s is a better film.) And yes, Fred MacMurray is very good in Absent-Minded Professor! Now if Eddie had said The Shaggy Dog…

I haven’t gotten to Sweet Smell of Success or Kiss Me Deadly yet. They’re sitting on my shelf, waiting. …the moment is coming soon! Can’t wait!

Love it when you discuss classic cinema, especially when you know what you’re talking about.

DETOUR is on the shelf. Haven’t seen it in years because it sucked! But like some other films I didn’t like that are “classics” I have been meaning to revisit it. Did that with FORCE OF EVIL, and LE SAMOURAI a couple of weeks ago and I think they’re great fucking films now! Jeff, I think I know how you feel about KISS ME DEADLY. That’s how I felt about FORCE OF EVIL. After I put some distance(years) between viewing I can so appreciate how great it is now. Like you, I kept saying to myself “is this the same movie”?! Fellas, “very good shoe” as Ed Sullivan might say.

I really enjoy the Film Noir genre, so I am very happy you guys did one at last on Classic Noir. I love Maltese Falcon and Double Indemnity. I really need to check out Kiss Me Deadly, glad I skipped ahead on the video so I wouldn’t get spoiled by it. Great Job Eric Cohen and the rest of the Cinefiles!

I’m totally weak when it comes to film knowledge of classic noir. But I know neo-noir stuff like After Dark My Sweet,Red Rock West,The Last Seduction etc…that being said I sought out Kiss Me Deadly and it was fantastic!

Good episode gents. I’m gonna say this again (from my YT comment)…I kept waiting for a slow zoom on´╗┐ Edwin, lighting up one of them Camels as this voice over dialogue played…

“Carlotta was the kind of town where they spell trouble T-R-U-B-I-L, and if you try to correct them, they kill you.”
